More Backyard, More Florida Living: Why The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch Is Worth Seeing

If you're moving to Lakewood Ranch and a larger lot is on the top of your list, The Country Club is worth considering.

This established gated community in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, has individual properties on lots approaching or exceeding half an acre. For example, published property records identify a 0.49-acre homesite on Lone Tree Glen and a 0.55-acre homesite nearby. Not every property has this much land, but the variety of lot sizes gives buyers some interesting options.

Whether you're relocating from another part of Florida or coming from out of state, here's what you should know about the homes, outdoor space, golf amenities and 2026 real estate market at The Country Club.

Why Look at The Country Club for a Larger Lot?

One of the first things I recommend when helping buyers compare Lakewood Ranch communities is to look beyond the home's interior square footage.

A beautiful kitchen and an open floor plan are great, but what about the space outside?

How much room is there between neighboring homes? Is there a pool or covered lanai? Does the backyard overlook water, a golf course or an established planting area? And how much of the actual property can you use?

The Country Club offers different residential styles, from attached residences and smaller detached homes to substantial custom-built properties. Some of its homes date to the late 1990s and early 2000s, providing an alternative to newer construction elsewhere in Lakewood Ranch.

You won't find the same lot size on every street. That's why comparing individual parcels is important.

How Large Are the Lots at The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch?

To give you an idea of the variation, here are actual documented properties within the original Country Club area.

8122 Lone Tree Glen

  • Lot size: approximately 0.55 acre
  • Living area: 3,983 square feet
  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 3
  • Construction year: 2002

8103 Lone Tree Glen

  • Lot size: approximately 0.49 acre
  • Living area: 3,833 square feet
  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 3
  • Construction year: 2001

7011 Portmarnock Place

  • Lot size: approximately 0.49 acre
  • Living area: 4,731 square feet
  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 4
  • Construction year: 2002
  • Recorded sale reported January 16, 2026: $2,340,000

These figures come from published Realtor.com property records. The addresses are examples of actual lot sizes, not a representation of current availability or a claim about the community's average lot size.

You can review the underlying property details for 8122 Lone Tree Glen, 8103 Lone Tree Glen and 7011 Portmarnock Place.

For comparison, half an acre equals 21,780 square feet.

That gives you a helpful reference point when reviewing properties advertised as having oversized lots.

What Can a Larger Lot Mean for Everyday Living?

More room for outdoor living

A larger parcel may provide additional space for a screened pool, covered lanai, patio, outdoor dining area or existing garden.

Imagine enjoying coffee outside before heading to the golf course, or spending an evening around your pool after a day at the beach.

Of course, the total acreage doesn't tell the whole story. The placement of the home, pool, garage, easements and neighboring structures determines how the space functions.

Greater separation between neighboring homes

For some buyers, the amount of open space around a house matters almost as much as the floor plan.

Larger side yards and thoughtfully positioned homes can create a more open feeling. Certain homes also have side-entry garages, which can change the appearance and usability of the driveway and front yard.

But separation and privacy need to be judged at the individual property. A half-acre lot with a home close to one boundary may feel quite different from another lot of the same size.

Room to enjoy established outdoor features

Some larger Country Club properties have mature trees, palms, landscaped borders and outdoor living areas that have developed over many years.

Those features may be appealing if you don't want to start with a bare yard. They also come with maintenance responsibilities that should be part of your buying decision.

The Country Club's Golf and Recreation Amenities

The Country Club is associated geographically with Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, a private membership organization.

According to the club's official information, its golf facilities include four private 18-hole courses, totaling 72 holes.

Three are in the original Country Club area:

  • Cypress Links
  • King's Dunes
  • The Legacy

The fourth, Royal Lakes, is in Country Club East.

The private club also offers tennis, pickleball, fitness, swimming, dining and social activities through its membership categories.

An important point for relocating buyers: Purchasing a home in The Country Club does not automatically include a private golf membership.

Membership is a separate financial decision.

The club's January 2026 pricing document lists a $95,000 nonrefundable initiation fee and $1,360 in monthly dues for Premier Golf membership. These published prices are subject to change, and additional charges may apply.

You can review the official 2026 membership pricing before speaking directly with the membership office.

2026 Real Estate Market Update: The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch

Here's a quick look at the latest completed monthly neighborhood data available as of October 16, 2026.

According to Redfin's September 2026 report for its mapped The Country Club neighborhood:

Market Indicator

September 2026

Median home sale price

$599,832

Homes sold

33

Median days on market

83

Median sale-to-list price ratio

95.5%

Median sale price per square foot

Approximately $280

The reported median sale price was 35.5% lower than the corresponding period a year earlier. However, because the area includes very different types of homes, changes in which properties sold can strongly influence that figure.

These statistics include multiple home types and should not be interpreted as the median price of a larger-lot detached residence.

Source: Redfin, The Country Club Housing Market, September 2026.

What does this mean if you're relocating?

It means you should review recent sales that closely match your preferred property type, lot size, home condition and location.

A residence on a half-acre homesite cannot be accurately priced by comparing it only with a smaller attached home elsewhere in the neighborhood.

I'd also pay attention to time on market, price reductions, and the difference between asking and final sale prices before making an offer.

What's Nearby? Shopping, Dining and Recreation

Another reason to consider The Country Club is its position within the established Lakewood Ranch area.

Here are several destinations to get familiar with during your home search.

Lakewood Ranch Main Street

📍 8100 Lakewood Main Street, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202

Main Street has restaurants, shops, a cinema and community activities.

The community's Music on Main event is scheduled on the first Friday of the month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., subject to changes to the event calendar.

It's one of the local places I suggest visiting to get a feel for daily life in Lakewood Ranch.

Waterside Place

lakewood-ranch-waterside-place

Waterside Place is another Lakewood Ranch town center, located in the Sarasota County portion of the community.

You'll find lakefront dining, shops and community events there.

The Farmers' Market at Lakewood Ranch takes place at 1560 Lakefront Drive, Sarasota, FL 34240, with a published Sunday schedule of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Country Club Community Park:

The official Lakewood Ranch park directory identifies a basketball court, picnic pavilion, playground and other recreation facilities at the neighborhood park.

Sarasota and Bradenton

Living in Lakewood Ranch also puts you within the larger Sarasota-Bradenton region, with access to additional shopping, restaurants, cultural destinations and Gulf Coast beaches such as Lido Key, Siesta Key and Anna Maria Island.

Travel times will depend on your specific address, route and traffic.

Important Costs to Review Before Buying

A bigger lot can mean more outdoor space, but it can also mean additional upkeep.

Before you purchase, I recommend reviewing:

  • HOA dues: Confirm the correct association, annual or monthly charges and maintenance responsibilities.
  • CDD assessments: Obtain the exact current district assessment for the property.
  • Landscaping and irrigation: Establish who maintains the yard, trees, irrigation system and common areas.
  • Pool maintenance: Review the pool equipment, surface condition, screen enclosure and anticipated service needs.
  • Roof and insurance: Check the condition of the roof, wind-mitigation features and available coverage.
  • Flood information: Look up the address using the official FEMA map resources.
  • Property taxes: Estimate your own future taxes rather than assuming the current owner's bill will stay the same.
  • Architectural rules: Confirm any approval requirements before planning a pool addition, fence, outdoor kitchen or other exterior work.

The Manatee County Property Appraiser provides parcel records and property tax information.

The FEMA Flood Map Service Center is a starting point for checking flood information by address.

FAQS ABOUT THE COUNTRY CLUB

No. Golf membership is optional and is not automatically included when you purchase a home in The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch.

The residential community and Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club are separate. You can own a home in the gated neighborhood without paying for private golf membership.

If you want to use the club's golf courses, fitness facilities, swimming pools or dining venues, you'll need the appropriate membership.

The club's published 2026 membership pricing lists three categories:

Membership: Premier Golf
Initiation fee: $95,000
Monthly dues: $1,360

Membership: Sports
Initiation fee: $15,000
Monthly dues: $430

Membership: Social
Initiation fee: $6,000

The club also lists a reduced monthly Premier Golf rate of $1,025 for its qualifying under-40 membership category.

These are published 2026 rates, not guaranteed current quotes. Initiation fees are nonrefundable, and applicable taxes and additional charges may apply.

Yes. The original Country Club at Lakewood Ranch is an established gated residential community in Manatee County, Florida.

It includes multiple neighborhoods with different home styles, lot sizes and maintenance arrangements.

Buyers can find detached single-family homes, villas and larger custom residences, depending on the neighborhood.

Entry procedures, visitor access and association rules should be confirmed for each property.

Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club offers four private 18-hole golf courses, totaling 72 holes.

The courses are:
• Cypress Links - designed by Arnold Palmer
• King's Dunes - designed by Arnold Palmer
• The Legacy - designed by Arnold Palmer
• Royal Lakes - designed by Rick Robbins

Cypress Links, King's Dunes and The Legacy are associated with the original Country Club area. Royal Lakes is located in Country Club East.

These are private membership courses, not regular public daily-fee courses.

Amenities depend on the membership category.

The club advertises 72 holes of golf, 20 tennis courts, 20 pickleball courts, a 20,000-square-foot fitness center, two heated swimming pools, dining and social activities.

Premier Golf membership includes golf and the club's other sporting and social amenities.

Sports membership includes tennis, pickleball, fitness, aquatics, dining and social activities without the Premier Golf privileges.

Social membership includes dining and social activities.

The club's published policy states that there are no food-and-beverage spending minimums or recurring club membership assessments. Individual purchases and certain services have additional charges.

Yes. The private club offers membership opportunities to residents and nonresidents of Lakewood Ranch.

You do not have to purchase a home within The Country Club or Country Club East to apply for membership.

The club also permits members to invite guests, subject to its rules, access restrictions and any applicable guest fees.

Yes. Certain homes in The Country Club are situated on lots approaching or exceeding half an acre.

For example, published property records identify:
8122 Lone Tree Glen: approximately 0.55 acre
8103 Lone Tree Glen: approximately 0.49 acre
One-half acre equals 21,780 square feet.

These are documented examples, not community-wide average lot sizes. Homesites vary considerably among neighborhoods and property types.

If you're relocating to Lakewood Ranch and want more outdoor space, it's worth comparing actual lot dimensions, setbacks, easements and usable yard space rather than relying only on the acreage advertised.

Yes. Mature landscaping is a documented feature at certain properties within the original Country Club.

For example, the published property record for 8103 Lone Tree Glen specifically identifies mature landscaping and trees.

The community's established housing includes homes built during the late 1990s and 2000s, giving some properties many years for trees and plantings to develop.

However, the amount and condition of landscaping vary by property. Buyers should review tree health, irrigation, maintenance responsibilities and any association rules before purchasing.

According to Redfin's September 2026 neighborhood market report, the median sale price in The Country Club was $599,832.

The report also recorded:
33 homes sold during September 2026
83 median days on market
A 95.5% median sale-to-list price ratio

These figures cover different property types, including attached homes and detached residences.

Larger custom homes on substantial lots can sell for considerably more than the neighborhood median.

For example, Redfin reported a sale at 7004 Portmarnock Place for $2,225,000 on October 2, 2026.

Mike Novak can help a buyer searching for a larger lot should review comparable detached-home sales rather than using the overall neighborhood median as a pricing guide.

Yes. Homeowners may pay residential association assessments and Community Development District (CDD) assessments.

The original Country Club is associated with Lakewood Ranch CDDs 2, 5 and 6.

HOA fees depend on the applicable association and may cover services such as common-area maintenance, landscaping or neighborhood-specific maintenance.

CDD assessments vary by district and property classification. They may include infrastructure-related debt and ongoing operations and maintenance costs.

Private Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club membership dues are separate from these residential charges.

Before buying, call Mike to request the exact HOA assessment, CDD charge and governing documents for the individual property.

The Country Club and Country Club East are separate residential communities.

The original Country Club opened in 1997 and includes established neighborhoods, mature trees, a variety of residential styles and several larger homesites.

Country Club East was developed later and has its own residential neighborhoods, associations and amenities.

Both communities are associated with Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, but private club membership is separate from homeownership in either location.

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is a convenient airport for visiting The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch.

The official Lakewood Ranch community website identifies SRQ as approximately 9 miles from Lakewood Ranch and Tampa International Airport (TPA) as approximately 55 miles away.

These distances describe the broader Lakewood Ranch community, not a measured route from an individual Country Club residence.

Your actual driving distance and travel time will depend on the specific address and traffic conditions.

Both airports are worth checking when planning a relocation visit.

The Country Club is in Lakewood Ranch, within the Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan area.

Nearby destinations include:
•Lakewood Ranch Main Street, with restaurants, shops, a cinema and community events
•Waterside Place, a lakefront shopping and dining destination
•The Mall at University Town Center, known as UTC
•Downtown Sarasota, with restaurants, cultural attractions and entertainment
•Bradenton, with additional dining, recreation and waterfront destinations
•Gulf Coast beaches, including Lido Key, Siesta Key and Anna Maria Island

Gulf Coast beaches are as approximately 15 to 18 miles from the broader community. Exact distances from The Country Club depend on your address and destination.

Possibly. It depends on the individual property's available space, setbacks, easements, association requirements and applicable permits.

Even a larger homesite does not automatically provide enough usable space for a pool expansion, outdoor kitchen, fence or additional structure.

Before purchasing a home with plans for outdoor improvements, review the survey, governing documents and local permitting requirements with Mike.

The Country Club is worth considering if you're looking for an established gated community with a variety of home styles, outdoor living areas, golf-course surroundings and convenient access to the Sarasota-Bradenton region.

Some properties offer larger lots and mature landscaping, while others provide different maintenance arrangements and smaller outdoor spaces.

One important advantage for buyers who do not play golf is that private golf membership is optional.

The best way to decide is to compare the homes themselves, review total ownership costs and spend time visiting the neighborhood.

Whether you're moving from another Florida community or from across the country, understanding the differences between Lakewood Ranch neighborhoods can help you make a more informed decision.
