If you’re considering a higher-end home in Lakewood Ranch, Wild Blue at Waterside and Country Club East may both come up in your search.
They offer two very different ways to live in Lakewood Ranch.
Wild Blue is a newer Waterside community centered around new construction, custom and estate homes, lakes, outdoor recreation, and an extensive resident amenity program.
Country Club East is an established gated community made up of 20 neighborhoods. It offers existing homes in a variety of settings, including properties with golf-course, lake, preserve, wetland, or other open-space views. Royal Lakes, one of the four courses associated with Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, is located within Country Club East.
If you’re relocating to Lakewood Ranch, moving into your next home locally, or looking for a community where golf can be a bigger part of your routine, understanding these differences can help you decide where to focus your home search.

What Is Wild Blue at Waterside?

Wild Blue is one of the newer residential communities within Waterside at Lakewood Ranch.
Lakewood Ranch currently lists approximately 505 total homes for Wild Blue.
The community focuses on larger single-family, custom, and estate residences. Lakewood Ranch currently summarizes Wild Blue homes at approximately 2,400 to 4,575 square feet, while Wild Blue’s builder information describes single-family homes beginning above 2,300 square feet and estate homes beginning above 4,500 square feet on one-acre homesites.
Individual floor plans and current inventory can fall outside general community marketing ranges, so I recommend comparing the homes actually available when you're ready to buy.
Wild Blue currently features homes from:
- Anchor Builders
- AR Homes by Arthur Rutenberg
- John Cannon Homes
- Lee Wetherington Homes
- STOCK Custom Homes
- STOCK Luxury Homes
For buyers who want newer construction, larger floor plans, substantial outdoor living space, and several builder choices, Wild Blue gives you plenty to consider.
What Is Country Club East?

Country Club East is an established gated community within Lakewood Ranch.
The homeowners association was incorporated in 2007, and the community consists of 20 individual neighborhoods.
Buyers will commonly encounter existing homes across these neighborhoods, giving you the chance to compare different architectural styles, home sizes, homesites, views, and property features.
Depending on the individual property, homes may have golf-course, lake, preserve, wetland, or other open-space views.
One of the biggest distinctions is Royal Lakes, a private golf course associated with Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club that is located within Country Club East.
If golf is high on your list, that's an important difference.
New Construction vs. an Established Community
This may be one of the easiest ways to start your comparison.
Wild Blue offers current new-construction opportunities.
Depending on the builder, homesite, and stage of construction, you may have opportunities to select a floor plan, finishes, pool design, outdoor living features, and other options.
Country Club East offers an established community where buyers will commonly find existing homes across its 20 neighborhoods.
That creates a different buying experience.
With an existing home, you can see the completed property, landscaping, pool, outdoor living area, view, and surrounding neighborhood before making your decision.
Some homes may already include significant improvements. Others may give you an opportunity to make changes after you purchase.
If you’re relocating to Florida, timing can matter too. Your preferred move date may help determine whether new construction or an existing home makes more sense.
How Do Wild Blue’s Amenities Compare?
Wild Blue places considerable emphasis on recreation and resident amenities.

As of September 2026, Wild Blue’s approximately 30,000-square-foot social clubhouse is under construction, with an announced Fall 2026 opening.
Plans for the clubhouse include:
- Indoor and outdoor dining
- Resort-style pool
- Lap pool
- Fitness studio
- Workout classrooms
- Private theater
- Indoor golf simulator
- Yoga lawn
- Putting green
- Social and gathering spaces
Wild Blue also offers extensive outdoor recreation, including:
- 8 pickleball courts
- 6 tennis courts
- Basketball
- Outdoor fitness equipment
- Dog parks
- Event lawn
- Boardwalk
- Dock and kayak launch
- Trails
- Picnic areas
- Playground
- Sports pro shop
If you picture yourself spending your week playing pickleball or tennis, working out, relaxing around the pool, kayaking, or spending time outdoors, Wild Blue offers many ways to do that close to home.
What About Country Club East Amenities?

Country Club East has resident amenities managed through its homeowners association.
There is also a separate set of golf, dining, fitness, racquet, and social amenities available through Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club based on the applicable club membership.
This distinction is important.
Buying a home in Country Club East does not automatically make you a member of Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.
Your home purchase and private club membership are separate decisions.
Wild Blue vs. Country Club East for Golfers
For golfers, this is where the comparison gets particularly interesting.
Wild Blue does not have a full-length golf course within the community.
It does offer an indoor golf simulator and putting green as part of its resident amenities.
Country Club East is home to Royal Lakes, one of the four 18-hole private courses associated with Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.
The Lodge at Country Club East includes golf-related facilities such as a pro shop, putting course, practice range, and Golf Academy, along with indoor and outdoor dining.
But there is an important point every buyer should understand:
Buying a home in Country Club East does not automatically include golf membership.
Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club offers separate membership categories with different privileges. Initiation costs, monthly dues, membership availability, course access, and other terms can change.
If golf is one of your main reasons for considering Country Club East, I recommend looking into the home and club membership at the same time.
How Does Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club Work?
Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club currently has four private 18-hole golf courses totaling 72 holes:
- Royal Lakes
- Cypress Links
- King’s Dunes
- The Legacy
Royal Lakes is located within Country Club East.
The club also offers practice facilities, clubhouses, dining, fitness, racquet, and social opportunities depending on membership type.
Membership is separate from homeownership, and you do not have to live in Country Club East to become a member.
That gives buyers another way to think about this decision.
You could choose Wild Blue because you prefer newer construction and the Waterside setting, then consider separate golf opportunities based on your preferences and availability.
Or you could choose Country Club East because you want Royal Lakes to be part of the community where you live.
Which Community Offers More New-Construction Choices?
Between these two communities, Wild Blue is the stronger choice if current new construction is one of your priorities.
With several active builders, you can compare different architectural styles, floor plans, homesites, and levels of customization.
Country Club East offers a different opportunity.
Because it is established, you can compare completed homes across its neighborhoods.
For some buyers, that means being able to see exactly what they're purchasing, including the pool, landscaping, outdoor living area, view, and surrounding homes.
Neither approach is automatically better.
It comes down to whether you prefer building or buying newer, or purchasing an existing home.
Which Community Is Better for Outdoor Recreation?
Both communities can work well for buyers who enjoy an active Florida lifestyle, but they approach recreation differently.
Wild Blue has a broad resident recreation program centered around tennis, pickleball, swimming, fitness, kayaking, trails, and outdoor gathering areas.
Country Club East has HOA resident amenities, while Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club provides additional golf, fitness, racquet, dining, and social opportunities based on the applicable membership.
Think about what you will actually use.
Would you spend more time on the pickleball or tennis courts, around the pool, kayaking, or using trails?
Or is golf one of the activities you want to plan your week around?
Your answer may tell you more than a long list of community features.
What About Waterside Place?

Wild Blue's location within Waterside is another major difference.
Waterside Place is Lakewood Ranch's lakefront town center, with restaurants, shops, events, entertainment, and the Sunday Farmers' Market.
If you expect to spend a lot of time around Waterside, Wild Blue's location may be appealing.
Imagine starting your morning with a workout or pickleball, spending some time by the water, then meeting friends for dinner around Waterside Place.
Country Club East is located in a different part of Lakewood Ranch.
Its location puts Royal Lakes and The Lodge within Country Club East, while other Lakewood Ranch destinations are reached by car.
Think about the places you expect to visit most often. Golf, restaurants, shopping, recreation, and social activities can all affect which location works better for you.
How Do the Costs Compare in Wild Blue At Waterside vs. Country Club East?
This is one area where you need to look beyond the purchase price.
Lakewood Ranch currently publishes Wild Blue HOA fees at approximately $800 to $900 per month, with maintenance listed as included.
Country Club East consists of multiple neighborhoods, so costs need to be reviewed for the individual property you're considering.
Wild Blue and Country Club East are located within the Lakewood Ranch Stewardship District. Applicable district assessments appear on annual property tax bills.
If you plan to join Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, membership costs are another separate consideration.
For any home you're seriously considering, review:
- HOA and applicable neighborhood fees
- District assessments
- Property taxes
- Homeowners insurance
- Flood insurance, if applicable
- Property maintenance obligations
- Private club initiation costs, if applicable
- Monthly club dues, if applicable
Rather than asking which community simply has the lower HOA, look at what it will cost to own the specific home and participate in the activities that matter to you.
Wild Blue May Make More Sense If...
Wild Blue may deserve more attention if you want:
- Newer construction
- Larger single-family, custom, or estate-home choices
- Multiple active builders
- Extensive resident amenities
- Tennis and pickleball
- Kayaking and water-oriented recreation

Country Club East May Make More Sense If...
Country Club East may deserve more attention if you want:
- An established gated community
- Existing homes across multiple neighborhoods
- Royal Lakes located within the community
- The option to pursue Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club membership separately
- Golf-course, lake, preserve, wetland, or open-space settings depending on the property
- HOA resident amenities
- Additional club amenities with the appropriate membership
- A community where golf can play a larger role in your routine
Which Is Better for Golfers?
If you specifically want to live within a community containing a full-length golf course, Country Club East has the advantage in this comparison.
Royal Lakes is located within Country Club East.
With the appropriate Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club membership, golfers receive access according to their membership category and current club terms.
Wild Blue takes a different approach.
You can live in a newer Waterside community, use the resident golf simulator and putting green, and pursue full-length golf separately.
For some buyers, keeping their home and golf decisions separate works well.
For others, living within a community where a private golf course is part of the setting is an important part of the Florida lifestyle they have in mind.
Which Is Better for Someone Relocating to Lakewood Ranch?
If you're moving to Lakewood Ranch from another state, think about what you want an ordinary week here to look like.
Would you rather start your morning with tennis, pickleball, a workout, or time on the water, then head toward Waterside for lunch or dinner?
Or do you picture golf playing a larger role in your weekly routine?
Do you want to select a newer home from a current builder?
Or would you rather purchase an existing home where you can see the completed property, pool, landscaping, outdoor living area, and surroundings before you buy?
Those questions can make the Wild Blue versus Country Club East decision much easier.
Wild Blue or Country Club East: Which Fits You?
Wild Blue and Country Club East give buyers two very different Lakewood Ranch choices.
Wild Blue offers newer construction, custom and estate-home opportunities, extensive resident recreation, and a Waterside location.
Country Club East offers an established gated setting with 20 neighborhoods, existing homes, varied property settings, Royal Lakes within the community, and the option to pursue Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club membership separately.
If newer construction, outdoor recreation, and Waterside living are high on your list, Wild Blue may be the first place you want to look.
If living within a community containing a full-length private golf course is a priority, Country Club East deserves a close look.
For many buyers, the difference becomes much clearer after seeing both communities in person.
